James C. Bell Sr., 90, of 56 Ellsworth Ave. and 169 Davenport Ave., New Haven passed away June 7, 2011 in YaleNew HavenHospital. Born in Big Stone Gap,VA on March 13, 1921, he was the son of James & Essie Owens. He was raised in Evansboro, PA by his adoptive parents, Carr & Mae Bell. He was a career officer in the US Army, having served 23 years, retiring as a First Sergeant. He participated in the Normandy Invasion on D Day, June 6th, 1944 and saw action at the infamous battle at the Inchon Reservoir in Korea. He retired from United Nuclear Corp. as a foreman. He is survived by two sons, Richard Bell and James C. Bell Jr., both of New Haven; a daughter, Jacqueline Bell of Oakland, CA.; and grandchildren, Lisa Bell Love, Marvin Bell Jr., Wayne Washington, Michael Bell Sr., Richard Bell II, Abiram Bathgate and Stephen Bell. He was predeceased by a son, Marvin Bell Sr. and a daughter, Joann Bell Washington.
