James Daniel Boswell Jr., 79, of Lebanon, Ill., born April 4, 1928 in Pensacola, Fla., died Friday, June 8, 2007, at his home. James graduated in 1947 from Geneva High School, Geneva, Ala., and went on to graduate from Massey Draughn Business College, Birmingham, Ala. He served in the Army during the Korean Conflict and upon returning home he studied chemistry at Pensacola Junior College, Pensacola, Fla.
He worked over 17 years at Monsanto in Pensacola, Fla., and in 1968 he and his family moved to South Bend, Ind., to become partner and business manager of Bradberry Brothers Excavating Company. He retired in 1993 and in 1999 he and his wife moved to Lebanon, Ill., to be close to their daughter and son-in-law Dr. and Mrs. Gregory T. Garrison and their two daughters. James was an active member of Plainview Baptist Church, Pensacola, Fla., and Southside Baptist Church, South Bend, Ind.
He held leadership rolls as the R.A. boys leader and baseball coach, Baptist Men’s Brotherhood, Sunday School teacher, Church Council member, Chairman of the New Sanctuary Building Committee, and North Central Baptist Associational President. He also served two terms as member of the State Convention of Baptist in Indiana, Board of Directors in Indianapolis, Ind. He was a member of First Baptist Church of O’Fallon, Ill.
He was preceded in death by his parents, James Daniel Boswell and Esto (Ester) Smith Boswell Childs; 2 sisters Bernice Boswell and Mrs. Lois Bradberry. Surviving are his loving wife of 53 years, Merle Pippin Boswell of Lebanon, Ill., oldest sister Mrs. Geraldine Cowan of Geneva, Ala., daughter Mrs. Joni M. (Gregory) Garrison of O’Fallon, Ill., and granddaughters Margaret M. Garrison and Julia Anne Garrison of O’Fallon, Ill., and nieces, nephews and cousins.
