James Bernard Burkhardt, 78, Anderson, passed away September 2, 2008 at St. Johns Health System, Anderson after an extended illness.
He was born August 24, 1930 in Anderson, and was a lifelong resident. A 1948 graduate of St. Mary’s High School and 1958 graduate of Ball State University, he served with the United States Army during the Korean War with the 6th Infantry Regiment. He retired in 1987 from Delco Remy Division of General Motors after 38 years of service.
James was a member of St. Ambrose Catholic Church, U.A.W. Local #662 and a lifetime member of Knights of Columbus. He enjoyed golf, fishing and hunting. He was very proud of his hole in one at Idlewold Golf Club.
Jim was a kind, giving and loving man and was loved by all who knew him.
Survivors include his son, Mark Burkhardt and his girlfriend of many years, Karen Jones of Anderson; brothers, Charlie Burkhardt of Anderson and Tom Burkhardt of Nebraska; grandchildren, Jason & wife, Jamie Burkhardt, Jama Burkhardt of Missouri, Ben Burkhardt and Brady Burkhardt; several great grandchildren, nieces and nephews; along with extended family, Layke Jones.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Elizabeth “Frances” Woodall Burkhardt; parents, Joseph & Verna Burkhardt; brother, Robert Burkhardt; and son, Greg Burkhardt.
