James “Barney” Sermons, 67 of Junction City, passed away Thursday, February 1, 2018 at John Cochran VA Hospital in St. Louis, Missouri. He was born July 12, 1950 in Sanford, Florida, son of Thomas Hardy Sermons and Anna Lee (Cohen) Sermons. He married Robin Day on August 8, 1992 and she survives in Junction City. In addition to his wife of 25 years, he is also survived by two daughters: April Sermons of Portland, TN and Melanie Reynolds and husband Charles of Junction City; a granddaughter:

Hanna Sermons of Portland, TN; sisters and brothers: Kathy Lunn of Florida, Renee Sermons of Florida, Libby and Logan George of Georgia, June and Ricky Denmark of North Carolina, Shirley and Tommy Jenkins of Virginia, Inez and John Murphy Tratchel of Iowa, Paul and Jan Sermons of Florida; many nieces, nephews, great and great-great nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents: Thomas and Anna Sermons; one brother: Tommy and Margaret Sermons; three sisters: Bertha and Roger Owens, Doris and Ted Wade, Carolyn and Conrad Geiger. Barney served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War.

He was a Truck Driver for over 45 years. He was a member of the Centralia American Legion 40 & 8, Centralia Masonic Lodge 201, and the Centralia VFW Post 2055. He was serving as the JR VP at the Centralia VFW Post 2055 since June of 2017. He enjoyed fishing, yard work and was an avid Nascar fan. Barney’s greatest enjoyment was spending time with his family and friends.
