Trust in the Lord with all your heart and do not lean
On your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge Him
And He will make your paths straight.
Proverbs 3:5-6 (NIV)
James Allen Walston was born on April 26, 1950 in Tarboro, North Carolina in Edgecombe County to the late Lemuel (Duke) and Mary Louise Walston. James transitioned from this life on earth and entered eternal rest on March 26, 2023 at Holy Cross Hospital in Silver Spring, Maryland.
James graduated from Conetoe High School in 1969 in Conetoe, North Carolina.
James and Janice met in 1975. At that time, he worked for Curtis Chevrolet. A few years later he discovered a new passion and decided to change his career path. In the late 70’s he started working for Mayflower Moving Companies. After a corporate merger, several years later, he began working for both Victory Van Corporation and Allied Van Lines. This career enabled him to financially support his family. Most of all, thanks to his career, he was able to provide his family and friends with the resources necessary to move.
On June 3, 1989, James and Janice entered the sacred bond of marriage, brimming with joy and happiness.
James enjoyed his work and felt a strong sense of purpose in his job. Therefore in 2017, when he reluctantly retired, he found ways to stay involved by volunteering at his church. As a Trustee he exhibited remarkable dedication and commitment to his church community by engaging in various acts of service. Among these acts, he faithfully cleaned the church every Saturday afternoon and cleared away snow from the church premises during winter seasons. On important religious occasions, such as “Good Friday,” he took it upon himself to fry fish showing an exceptional level of devotion.
James was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers: William Walston and Lemuel Walston, Jr.
He leaves to cherish his memories: his wife, Janice Walston, three daughters; Tonya Clark, Joyce Stewart, and Sophia Stewart, two sons; Kenard (Tanya) Walston and Rodney (LaKecia) Stewart, five sisters; Katie Scott (the late W.L.) of Suitland, Maryland, Jean Frazier (Donald) of Greenbelt, Maryland, Linda Moten (the late John) of Tarboro, North Carolina, Susan Walston and Denise Walston of Tarboro, North Carolina, five grandchildren; Brian (Tiger) Stewart, Brianca Stewart, McKinley Stewart, Ki’ari Walston and Iyana Walston, one honorary grandchild, Sheena Carter; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
