James A. Sellards III (Jim), age 93, passed from our view on September 2, 2021. Jim was born in Des Moines and graduated from Roosevelt High School as well as Drake University where he received with honors the bachelor of music, master of music, and bachelor of music education degrees.
His professional career included being an on-air radio personality while doing his graduate work at Drake; working in Washington, D.C. as an analyst for the National Security Agency; and serving as section head in the home office of a large insurance company. Living in San Francisco, California, for many years, he renewed his interest in radio, doing many voice-overs.
His world travels included three months wandering through Europe; and exploring Alaska, Australia and New Zealand, as well as Canada, Mexico and the Caribbean.
Jim was predeceased by his parents, Gertrude Guth Sellards and James A. Sellards Jr.; by Wilson F. (Bud) Miller, his dear companion for 39 years; and by his beloved partner, Terry R. Harris. He is survived by a number of loving cousins and cherished friends, who in later years brightened his life.
