James Averett Kirby, (Jim) age 66, died at home in Pocatello, Idaho, on Thursday, May 28, 2015. The cause was heart and kidney failure following a prolonged illness.
Born September 21, 1948, in Pittsburg, California, the son of James Harvey Kirby and Vera Averett. Jim had four sisters, three older and one younger. Jims early years were spent in northern California. Jim or Jimmy, as he was known then, learned from his dad how to work hard and he learned the value of family and the gospel of Jesus Christ from his angel mother, (as he called her). He also learned to love music, of course that was a necessity in the Kirby family, if you didn’t want to be traded in for a ‘Shetland pony’. Jim had a beautiful tenor voice.
The family moved to Lebanon Oregon where Jim began high school, and then later to Longview Washington, where he graduated from Mark Morris High School.
In February 1983, while working as a foreman on a construction crew, in Provo, Utah he met Heidi Lou Stamm, a waitress in the cafAC. where he ate lunch. They were married on May 13, 1983 in Longview Washington.
Preceded in death by both his father and mother, Jim is survived by his wife Heidi, their four sons, James A.S. (Celia) Kirby of Boise ID, Tanner (Cheyanne) Kirby, Aaron Kirby and Wayne Kirby, and two grandsons Koi and Kie Kirby, of Pocatello ID, his sisters Sharon Taylor, Kay Davies, Marilyn Hadden, and Joy Kinnaman of Oregon as well as many nieces, nephews and cousins.
