James A. Galanakis, a resident of Pasadena for four years, and previously of Brooklyn Park and Astoria, New York, died on November 21, 2016 at the age of 88.
He was born on September 10, 1928, in New York, NY, to the late Antonia and Pericles Galanakis. After high school, he worked for Macys Company in New York, before entering the US Army in 1950. He served during the occupation of Germany in the 260th Anti Aircraft Battery, before being transferred to the Army Reserve, serving until 1956. He went on to work for Sears Roebuck as a repair mechanic. He was a member of the Empire Masons while in New York, and joined the Freestate Masons upon moving to Maryland. He enjoyed woodworking, riding tractors, and fixing “anything”.
Along with his parents, James is preceded in death by his beloved wife of 35 years: Bertha Galanakis (nee Cargas); his brother Theo; and four sisters: Anna, Stella, Dina, and Porshe.
He is survived by his son Pericles (Perry) and his wife Rebecca, of Pasadena; and their children Nicole and her husband Brendan, and Christopher, all of Millersville; and his son Constantine (Gus) and his wife Patricia, and their son James, all of Eldersburg.
