James A. Bennett, 69, died on July 19, 2009 while visiting his daughter in Des Moines, WA. He was born on April 30, 1940 to Harold and Marie (Emmert) Bennett in Lebanon, IN.
He married Kathryn Spurgin on June 2, 1962 in Columbus, IN. Jim graduated from Columbus High School in 1958 and was a 1962 graduate of Franklin College. He later graduated from Salmon P. Chase School of Law in Cincinnati. Mr. Bennett was a retired attorney and judge.
His career included ten years as a Municipal Court judge; service as Assistant Prosecutor for Gallia County, OH.; and the past-president of the Gallia County Bar Association. He retired from private practice in 2001. Jim was an active member of Mt. Comfort United Methodist Church in Greenfield, IN and formerly Grace United Methodist Church in Gallipolis, OH. He was also past-president of both the Fortville and Gallipolis chapters of the Lions Club and the vice-president of the Classic Ragtime Society of Indiana.
Mr. Bennett is survived by his wife; son Steve; daughter Christy Barker; grandson Maxwell A. Bowes; and granddaughter Maggie Newhouse. He was preceded in death by his parents; daughter Susan Shellman; and brothers Harold Eugene Bennett and Robert Bennett.
