Jalene Simpson Weston, age 68, passed away on Sunday, September 19, 2021 at her home in
Hooper, Utah from cancer.
Jalene was the first and only child born to Jay and Charlene Simpson on March 23, 1953. She
lived in Hooper for her whole life. First, with her parents, and later building a house next door to
them when she started her own family. Jalene was raised in a loving home. Many lessons were
taught to Jalene growing up. The most important lessons were of God and family and love.
These are the truths she treasured. Because Jalene was an only child she was close to her
cousins. Both growing up and into adulthood. They became her siblings. She had many loving
memories of her times with her cousins.
Jalene attended Hooper Elementary, Roy Jr. High, and Roy High School, where she danced as
a Royalaire and sang in the choir. She attended Weber State College for just one semester. It
was during that semester that she met a cute, returned missionary. His name was Dennis Jay
Weston and he had recently returned from Japan. They met at a MM Gleaners church activity.
It is said she played hard to get. It must have worked because after only 3 weeks of dating
Dennis was proposing. But his proposal was in Japanese and Jalene had no idea what he was
saying. After a few more weeks he said the words in English, and they were engaged. Dennis
and Jalene were married in the Salt Lake Temple on March 8, 1973.
Jalene and Dennis quickly and joyously welcomed children into their lives. Jalene wanted lots of
kids. She wanted her children to have siblings. Something she never had. And she always
wanted them to love each other and never fight. Many times her children heard the phrase,” If I
had siblings, I would never fight with them!” Jalene gave birth to 7 children. The first six children
were all girls. One of the daughters born to her was stillborn at birth. And another daughter was
born in a car on the way to the hospital! Jalene’s last child was a son.
Jalene was a stay-at-home mom for most of her children’s growing up years. She always had
such a loving feeling in her home. Jalene didn’t like to cook but she liked to bake. Her children
loved coming home to the smell of chocolate chip cookies or cinnamon rolls. Jalene loved to
sew. She provided lots of beautiful clothes for her kids and grandkids throughout the years.
Even when Jalene was a stay-at-home mom she tried to help with finances. She used her
sewing skills for paid tailoring and even taught sewing classes to kids in the summers. When
her last kids went to school she got a job at Rocky Mountain Jr. High as a lunch lady. She
worked there for many years. She eventually ended up joining Mary Kay cosmetics. Jalene
loved selling her Mary Kay. She earned some fun new cars and many trips along the way but
the thing she loved most was the people she met there. Jalene would say it was her favorite job!
It was followed by a close second the summer she took care of the Hooper Park with her good
friend, Debi Haws.
Jalene was a faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. She served in
many callings, in the Primary and Young Women and as Relief Society President. She found so
much happiness by serving. Jalene had a strong testimony and love of our Savior.
Jalene enjoyed reading, traveling and shopping. She loved purses and jewelry! Jalene also
loved to watch movies. Her very favorite movies were of the disaster variety. But most of all
Jalene loved life and people. She loved to laugh and have fun. Her laugh and her spunky
attitude will be missed.
Jalene was diagnosed with melanoma cancer in 2015 and in 2018 they found that it had
metastasized. Jalene underwent numerous treatments for this cancer. It was a hard road of
suffering and sickness. But Jalene faced it with grit and hope. When Jalene died we believe she
didn’t lose her battle to cancer. We believe Jalene beat cancer with how she lived and loved.
The family would like to thank the doctors, nurses and staff at Huntsman Cancer Institute,
Envision Home Health and Hospice, Dr. Jeremy Rinard, Dr. Zachary Campbell and Dr. Allison
Triplitt. They would also like to thank the neighbors and friends in the Hooper 2nd Ward. There
are angels on earth.
Jalene was preceded in death by her father, C. Jay Simpson and a grandson Logan Raleigh
Bowles. She is survived by her loving husband, Dennis, her mother Charlene, her 6 children:
Cariane (Derek) Bowles, Jennifer Weston, Amanda (Brett) Rasmussen, Melissa Christensen,
Abby (Hernando) Perez, and Dennis Jay Weston Jr, as well as 13 grandchildren.
