Jake Haff, Jr., adored Husband, Father, Grandfather, and Great-Grandfather, passed away in Phoenix, Arizona, on Sunday, February 23, 2020. He is now with his Wife Lynette in heaven and so many others who have gone before him.
Jake was born to Eber Hylas “Jake” Haff and Stella Gertrude “Gertie” Haff, on March 19, 1929, in the small town of Vinita, Oklahoma. Jake is survived by his 4 remaining “Haff” children: Jake III of Pennsylvania, Debra of California, Ronald of Florida, and Susan of Arizona. Jake was a very proud Grandfather of his 7 Grandkids: Jake IV, David, Jessica, Rebecca, Cassandra, Drake & Mary. Jake was also a Great-Grandfather to: Timothy, Jayden, Ava, Gabriel, Alexander, and Xavier.
Jake would have been 91 years old in March and he was the last survivor of his 7 siblings: Mabron, Catherine, Gene, Theodore, Lloyd, Herman, and Mary Lou.
Jake was a Sargent in the United States Air Force between 1948-1952, spending time serving in Berlin, Germany and Alaska. Jake also helped entertain the troops by playing the piano in the USAF band in Germany. Jake was awarded the following military medals for his service: Good Conduct Medal, Humane Action Medal, and Occupation of Germany Medal with Berlin Airlift Clamp.
In addition to some smaller jobs –Jake’s career after his military service included: 14 yrs. Quality Engineer at McDonnell Douglas Aircraft (now Boeing), 30 yrs. Engineer for South Coast Air Quality Management District (AQMD), and 4 yrs. as a part-time Legal Law Library Assistant.
Jake loved spending time with all of his family members when he could, playing with the animals, traveling with his wife, listening to good Music (especially 40’s Band Music), reading the newspaper, eating a good home-cooked meal & exploring new restaurants, and attending church with his wife.
Jake spent his young years in Oklahoma, and then later moved to California where he and his wife raised their 5 children. In 2006, Jake and his wife moved to Arizona and spent some time living in Phoenix and Payson.
Jake will always be remembered by those that loved him as a tremendous example of a man living with the utmost integrity. His family will never forget his strong & stable character, his stories, his giggle, his smile, his caring unselfish ways, and his always-present strong love & help to his Wife Lynette.
