Jake Aaron Godin left this world on February 14, 2016, peacefully in his sleep. His journey began 25 years ago in Oceanside, California. Joe and Kim (Holmes) Godin were joyous and blessed with his birth. He joined big brother Kyle Oldham to make this family complete.

His family moved in the early years, following Dad’s work, from California, to the South, to North Carolina, and eventually putting down roots in Belton. From the beginning, where ever the family was, became home to Jake where his zest for life, love of sports, and dry sense of humor were always evident.

He attended Belton schools starting at Miller Heights and continuing until his graduation from Belton High School in 2008. He then moved on to Tarleton State University where he graduated in 2013.

From childhood Jake loved youth sports, especially football. Eventually his dream came true, and he became a member of the Belton Tiger football team, where “Big Jake” anchored the offensive line. His time with his teammates–at practice, at games, at those night-before meals provided by the moms– were among his favorite memories. Belton was the home of his heart.   The home of his soul was Fellowship Baptist Church, where he accepted Christ as his Savior and where he was involved in many activities with the church youth.

Jake valued the simple things in life. He loved music, BBQ, tattoos, and his beard. He treasured his friendships and his family.   Jake enjoyed doing things for and with his family. He became the grill chief for the Fourth, the turkey carver at Christmas, and the usual winner when the group gathered around the table for game nights. He was so smart. Even Jake was probably not expecting how much he would love being an uncle. From the instant Mason was born, Jake adored him. He crammed a lifetime of love into the two short years he wore the title “Uncle Jake.” Jake’s life journey was for us too short, but he filled our hearts and memories in his twenty five years.

Jake is survived by his parents, Joe and Kim of Fort Worth, his brother and sister-in-law, Kyle and Wendy Oldham, and his precious nephew, Mason Oldham. He also leaves behind his grandparents, Phyllis Lewis of Albuquerque, Gene and Joyce Holmes of Belton, Mavis Wendy Godin of Monroe, WA and David Lewis of Clovis, NM.

He was beloved by his aunts and uncles, Michelle Hurley, Andy and Gena Garcia, Pete and Tina Godin, Ron and Jean Garner, Don and Marion Scrivner, and Karen Morrison. Numerous cousins loved him dearly and will miss his gentle smile and kind heart. Each and every friend, extended family member, teacher and mentor that ever knew Jake had a part in creating the wonderfully unique and quirky man that he was.
