Jairus C. Gilbert, Sr.
Jairus “Jerry” Charles Gilbert, Sr., age 77, of Halifax, VT died Tuesday, August 24, 2010 at Brattleboro Memorial Hospital, Brattleboro, VT. He was the husband of Julie (Myers) Gilbert.
He was born March 22, 1933 in Bethel, CT son of the late Joel and Jennie (Taylor) Gilbert. He was a 1951 graduate of Bethel High School and served in the Navy from 1951 to 1955. He married Julie Myers on September 6, 1958 in St. Patrick’s Chapel in Redding, CT. He was a Trainman/Conductor for NY, NH, Hartford Rail Road / Conrail for 40 years until retiring in 1995. He was a coach for the cross-country /track program at Lauralton Hall in Milford, CT for 20 years, retiring in 2004. He received the Rev.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by 5 sons: Joel Gilbert of Danbury, CT, Jay Gilbert of Franklinton, NC, Aaron Gilbert and his wife Tamy of Naugatuck, CT, Edward Gilbert and his wife Caroline of Las Vegas, NV, Max Gilbert and his wife Kasey of Middleburg, FL; 3 daughters: Sally Niezelski and her partner Dennis Miller of Brattleboro, VT, Marnie Sinclair of Amenia, NY, Patricia Gilbert and her partner William Butler of Halifax, VT; 14 grandchildren, 3 great grandchildren as well as several nieces and nephews. He is also survived by his old friend: John Driscoll of Largo, FL; dear cousin: Edith Wells of Bethel, CT; brother: Arthur Gilbert and his wife Viola of Sandgate, VT.
In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by a sister: Vivian Shanley and beloved grandson: Jake Niezelski.
