Jacquelyn “Kay” (Alldredge) Henderson, 74, of Vincennes passed away on April 10, 2018 peacefully at her home surrounded by family.
Kay was born on April 3, 1944 in Evansville, Indiana. She was the daughter of Jack Z. and Stacy (Birdsall) Alldredge. Kay married Lawrence Henderson M.D. on December 12, 1970 and they made their life together for 48 years. In 1962, she graduated from Evansville North High School where she was Salutatorian. She continued her education at Indiana University School of Allied Health. She later graduated Magna Cum Laude from St. Mary of the Woods College with a Bachelor of Arts in Humanities in1987 and then graduated Magna Cum Laude from the University of Southern Indiana with a Bachelor of Science in English in 1990.
Kay worked for the Vanderburgh County Recreation Department 1962-63, at Indiana University Medical Center as Chief Oncology Technician (radiation therapist) 1964-69, and at University of California, San Francisco Medical Center as an Oncology Technician. She worked at Franklin Hospital as the Chief Technician while teaching at City College of San Francisco 1972-76.After taking time off to raise her son, Mark Allen Henderson, she embarked on a new career teaching English, Speech and Creative Writing at Vincennes Lincoln High School until her retirement in 2006.
Kay was a member of First United Methodist Church in Vincennes for 39 years, where she played in the bell choir for over 25 years and taught Sunday school for children, teens and adults. Kay was blessed over the years to have met, worked with and learned from some extraordinary teachers and students. They enriched her life and created in her a certainty that the future will produce some excellent leaders.
Kay is survived by her husband Larry, her son Mark and his wife Theresa Brown, her niece Elaine (Durham) Otto, her great niece Stacy Otto, her great nephews Andrew Otto and Marine Gunnery Sgt. Robert Durham and his wife Christina (Racey) Durham, her great-grand nieces and nephew Evalyn, Elizabeth, and Theodore Durham, and her great-grandniece Zoë.
Kay was preceded in death by her parents Jack and Stacy Alldredge, her niece Jennifer (Durham) Felker, and her sister Marilyn (Wall) Durham.
