Jacqueline Maude Busséy was 89 years old when she peacefully passed away on May 28th, 2023, at her home in Englewood, NJ.
She was born in Savannah, Georgia April 10, 1934, the daughter of Middleton E. Varner and Maude I. Patterson. The family moved to New York City in 1945 where Jackie graduated from the High School of Music and Art. She graduated from Fisk University with a bachelor’s degree in art and was the president of the Delta Sigma Theta Sorority her junior and senior years. After graduating, she married Alex W. Busséy. They would end up celebrating almost 67 years as a married couple. She earned a Master of Science Degree from the Lubin School of Business at Pace University and a Master of Arts in Education from New York University graduating with honors.
Jackie began her career as a social worker in the NYC Welfare Department and rose to Supervisor before taking a break to become a mother. When she returned to the workforce, she had a successful career in the New York City Department of Education starting as an art teacher at PS 24 and rising to principal of PS 30-31, retiring in 1994. She started a successful small business, JACCAR, Inc. finding unique items and selling them at local markets. However, many of her favorite moments after retinting came from touring the world with her husband Alex. Over the years, their travels took them to six continents, more than 80 countries, and over 200 cities.
Jackie touched everyone she interacted with because of her kindness and generous spirit. She will be missed and remembered by all of us.
She is survived by her husband Alex, her two children Bryan and Jacqui Michelle, her daughter-in-law Gayle, sister-in-law Naomi, brother- in-law Ronald, and many nieces and nephews.
