Jacqueline Lorraine Meyers, 61, of Elkhart, passed away Tuesday, Sept. 13, after a courageous battle with breast cancer.

When she flew to heaven she was surrounded by her most cherished at her residence.

She was born July 21, 1955, in Elkhart, to John Junior McLain and Laura Fatima (Hamood) McLain.

Survivors include her high school sweetheart and husband of 38 years, Charles “Chuck” Meyers of Elkhart; one beloved son, Matthew C. (Jessica) Meyers of Elkhart; one treasured daughter, Ashley (Christopher) Brunt of Elkhart; one sister, Tina (Tad) Miller of Chandler, Ariz.; four brothers, John (Donna) McLain of Jones, Mich., Brad (Peg) McLain of Elkhart, Jacob (Mary) McLain of Lake Elsinore, Calif. and Chuckie (Teresa) McLain of Elkhart; and her two precious joys of grandchildren, Fisher Brunt and Thatcher Benson, both of Elkhart.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sister, Maryanna McLain.

She took pride in serving her community and did so for the past 40 years as an employee of Elkhart County government.

She started at 18 as a clerk then moved to a secretary and bailiff for Judge Rickoff. In 1994, she began working in The Elkhart County Treasurer’s Office. She commenced as an office supervisor, then moved to chief deputy and in 2013 became Elkhart County’s Treasurer.

She respected and loved her extended family in all of her workplaces. Jackie was a member of the Elkhart’s Chapter of The Women’s Republican Party.

Jacqueline enjoyed traveling cross country on motorcycle with her husband. Her exploring of the country by any means of transportation gave her a great sense of adventure and independence. She was a fantastic jewelry maker, loved to scrapbook and knit. An additional past time was shopping of any kind. She adored theater and most of all spending time with her precious family and friends.

Jackie had a contagious smile and joyous laughter. She knew no stranger and was a very giving soul. She touched the lives of many people and will continue to do so through her legacy. She will be missed by many.
