Jacob Wenger Eby, 96, passed away Wednesday, October 6, 2021, at Spurgeon Manor in Dallas Center, IA. Jake was born November 11, 1924, in Shippensburg, PA, to Christian and Fannie (Wenger) Eby and the family moved to Dallas Center in 1931. He married Dorothy Keller on July 23, 1950, at the bride’s home in rural Dallas Center. They started the first six years of their life together north of town and moved four miles west to the present family farm in 1957.

Jake was a farmer his entire life, retiring in 1990. He was a deacon and member of the Dallas Center Church of the Brethren and a board member of the Dallas Center COOP. He enjoyed participating in softball and bowling. Some of his greatest joys were hunting, fishing, and traveling in their motor home to Alaska. They enjoyed spending their winters in Arizona.

Jake is survived by his wife of 71 years, Dorothy, his children, Fred (Mary ) Eby of Adel, IA, Brad (Debra) Eby of Apache Junction, AZ, Linda (Rob) Porter of Des Moines, IA, Jeff (Cynthia) Eby of Adel IA, Kent Eby of Dallas Center, and Kathy (Jeff) Firestone of Indianola, IA; eight grandchildren, Mark Eby of Adel, IA, Sarah (Samuel) Chestnutt of Kilkeel, Northern Ireland, Deborah (Matt) Stanghelle of Stavanger, Norway, Matt Eby of Waukee, IA, John (Trista) Porter of Greenville, NC, Jen (Larry) Kubitz of Waterloo, IA, Cierra (Nate) Atkinson of Madison, WI, and Jacob Eby of La Grande, OR; 11 great-grandchildren, and his siblings, Harold (Mildred) Eby of Harrisonburg, VA and Mary Meyers of Adel, IA. He was preceded in death by his parents, and siblings, Ruth Meyers, Anna Keller, John Eby, Dorothy Hawbaker, Ada Meyers and Henry Eby, Jr.
