Died peacefully at his home early Tuesday morning, October 11, 2016 at age 92. He was born the son of Dov and Rachel (Selman) Szmuszkovicz. He was the beloved husband of Rachel (Ria) Szmuszkovicz for 69 years and friends since they were 16 years old. Adored father of Daphne and Jeff Champagne of Harrisburg, PA; Kathryn Szmuszkovicz and Chip Yorke of Vienna, VA; Deborah and Stephen Devaux of Boston; Drs.
Jacqueline Szmuszkovicz and Edward Brunngraber of Altadena, CA; grandfather of Jessica Champagne and Max Toth, Joshua Champagne and Nicole Durkin, AJ and Eric Devaux, and Ted and Max Brunngraber; great-grandfather of Benjamin Toth Champagne and he knew he had another great grandchild on the way. Dr. Szmuszkovicz spent his career as a research scientist at The Upjohn Company and its successors and both taught and conducted research at Notre Dame for many years after his “retirement”.
