Jacob L. Schuring (Jake), son of Louis and Elizabeth Van Dyke Schuring, was born February 15, 1924, in Pella, Iowa. Jake went to his heavenly home on Tuesday, July 12, 2011, at the Pella Regional Health Center at the age of eighty-seven.
He attended Fifield and Otley grade schools and graduated from Pella Community High School in 1941. Jake served in the army during World War II in the South Pacific area. He received a Purple Heart on December 22, 1944.
Jake started painting while in high school, working for Bill Van Dyke, with the exception of one year with Maytag. He worked as a painter since 1940. He started his own business Schuring’s Wallpaper and Paint in 1952, retiring in 2001.
On June 26, 1947, Jake was united in marriage with Arvena Bernice Rietveld in Knoxville, Iowa. They were blessed with five children: Stanley, Michael, Sandra, Paul, and Janine.
Those left to cherish his memory are his children and their spouses; fourteen grandchildren; and twenty great-grandchildren; as listed; his sisters, Jennie Breen, Henrietta Van Engelenhoven; brothers, Robert (Delores) Schuring, Henry (Carol) Schuring all of Pella, and Kenneth (Jane) Schuring of Rose Hill.
Preceding him in death: his wife of sixty-three years, Arvena, who passed away May 19, 2011; daughter Sandra Keuning; sisters Mary Lou Schuring and Beatrice Van Houweling.
