Jackie Marie Watson Jones died January 7, 2017 at Duke University Medical Center, following a determined fight to conquer a series of debilitating conditions over the past ten years. Jackie was a loyal wife, devoted mother and grandmother, and a distinguished educator/administrator.
Jackie was the daughter of Ellie and Mavis Watson of Burlington, who preceded her in death. She is survived by her husband of 47 years, Dr. Richard Jones; two sons, Andrew Jones and wife Katie, and Richard Jones and wife Mindy; and four grandchildren, Jackie, McLain, Graceyn, and Wyatt Jones, all residents of Raleigh. Her family includes three brothers, Danny Watson and wife Janice of Burlington, Dwight Watson and wife Jamie of Crawfordsville, IN, Jeffrey Watson and wife Barbara of Lititz, PA; and two sisters, Nancy Hudson and husband, Rev. Gary Hudson of Charlotte, and Carolyn Price of Burlington.
Jackie was a superb teacher and administrator. She served as a teacher, principal, and supervisor in Anderson County (TN), High Point, Transylvania County, and Watauga County. She was Lead Principal of the North Carolina School for the Deaf in Morganton, and taught at UNC-G and Appalachian State University. A graduate of Williams High School and Elon College, she held a Master’s Degree from the University of Tennessee-Knoxville, and an Advanced Degree from Appalachian State University.
Jackie and her husband relocated from Boone to Durham in 2016. She was a member of Westminster Presbyterian Church in Durham.
