Jackie Lee Frazier McCoy, age 74, died at her home in Elkhart, Indiana on October 5, 2018.
Born April 20, 1944 in Indianapolis to Jack Noel Frazier (d. 1944) and Rosemary Hodson Frazier, she was raised in Danville, Indiana by Rosemary and her stepfather, Richard Harold Helton. Throughout her life Jackie maintained a deep affection for her hometown. Rosemary, an avid tennis player and coach, passed on to Jackie a love of the game. She played and taught tennis for most of her life. Jackie graduated in 1962 from Danville High School and went on to earn both a Bachelor’s and a Master’s degree in Education from Ball State University. She was a passionate educator who strived to empower her students to realize their potential. She received the Elkhart Jaycees Outstanding Young Educator of the Year award in 1970. Jackie taught many subjects in elementary, middle school, and adult education, retiring from Elkhart Community Schools in 2008.
An active member of First Presbyterian Church in Elkhart, Jackie served as a deacon, elder, and choir member. Jackie dedicated her time and energy to philanthropic and service organizations including P.E.O., Jaycees, Tri Kappa, and Heart City Kiwanis Club, which honored her as Elkhart Kiwanian of the Year in 2002. Jackie enjoyed traveling, journaling, reading, writing poetry, knitting, and building miniatures. Her family and friends will always remember her boundless energy, optimism, and generous spirit.
She was preceded in death by parents Jack Noel Frazier, Rosemary Hodson Frazier Helton, and Richard Harold Helton. She is survived by sons Mark McCoy (David) of Arlington, TX, Matthew McCoy (Brian Talley) of Oklahoma City, OK, Andrew (A.J.) McCoy (Meredith Deaton) of Frisco, TX, and Seth McCoy (Heather) of Randolph, VT; sister Janet (Alan) Helton Hasegawa of Tulsa, OK; granddaughter Eliza Rosemary McCoy of Randolph, VT; and many beloved nieces, nephews, and cousins.
