Jack Watson Newton, age 95, passed away on Saturday, July 23, 2016 in Hudsonville, MI. He was born on July 20, 1921 in Salamanca, NY a son of Joseph and Florence (Watson) Newton. He proudly served in the US Army Air Corps during WWII and received The Silver Star for his actions in the South Pacific on board the famed B-17 bomber for his bravery and actions above and beyond the call of duty. Jack was very mechanically minded and enjoyed fixing electronics.

He was involved with the planning and building of lunar equipment used in the Apollo missions. Jack was a member of Galesburg Baptist Church and enjoyed leading Bible study groups. On October 22, 1943 Jack married the former Elizabeth “Betty” Totten who preceded him in death on March 31, 2002. He was also preceded in death by his parents and three brothers, Claude, Joe and Warren.

Surviving are two sons, Craig (Gay) Newton of Galesburg and David (Mary) Newton of Saugatuck; seven grandchildren, Rebecca Warren, Benjamin (Rebecca) Newton, Samuel (Stephanie) Newton, Joseph (Sarabeth) Newton, Megan Rehkopf, Katie Newton and Brooke Newton; thirteen great-grandchildren, Kelsea, Jeremy, Shelby, Logan, Jacob, Evan, Luke, Jackson, Elizabeth, Natalie, Mason, Grant and Eva; a sister, Marilyn Jean Maas; and several nieces and nephews.
