Jack Terry Wiedrick Sr., 66, of Boise died of natural causes in his home on the morning of December 24, 2008.

Jack was born to Calvin and Nova Wiedrick on November 28, 1942.  He is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Jack Jr. and Gina Wiedrick; his daughters and sons-in-law, Jill and Paul McDaid and Holli and Jeff Newman; his four grandchildren, Michelle, Andrew, Alex and Aileen; and his sisters, Marilyn Murphy and Janice Wiedrick.

An ROTC member while in high school, he entered active duty upon graduation in 1961 and served in uniform until 1963.  He was honorably discharged from the US Naval Reserve in 1970.  In the meantime he earned an Associate of Science from BoiseJunior College, receiving his degree in 1965.

Jack had a wide variety of interests and hobbies, including square and round dancing, motorcycling, leatherworking, fishing, camping, photography, computers and woodworking.  As a firearms enthusiast and longstanding member of the NRA, he enjoyed teaching his children and grandchildren about guns and gun safety.  He was a voracious reader and was never seen without a book in his pocket.

He worked in maintenance and repair for most of his life and was a true “jack-of-all-trades.”  His rare gift for diagnosing and repairing almost any kind of mechanical or electrical problem was legendary among those who knew him.  He had a generous spirit and shared his skills and knowledge with anyone who needed them.

In a notebook of his personal reflections he included a fitting quote: “Knowledge comes by taking things apart; wisdom comes by putting things together.”  He did a lot of both and gained a lot of both.
