John T. Maguire, NYPD Detective John T. Maguire IV, of Ridgefield, died peacefully at his home surrounded by his family on Wednesday, September 4, 2013 after a courageous two and a half year battle with pancreatic cancer. Known as Jack to all, he lived in the wonderful Mimosa community in Ridgefield with his wife, Mary Flynn-Maguire, and their three children, Jack, Brigid, and Patrick for the last 26 years. A third generation NYC police officer, Jack was born in Brooklyn, New York and was the son of the late John T. III, and Veronica (Haffey) Maguire. 1987 was a big year for Jack and his family. He retired as a detective from the NYPD and moved his family from Riverdale in the Bronx to Ridgefield. “This was the best move we ever made.” Jack was often quoted as saying. He loved everything about Ridgefield and his beautiful parish of St. Mary’s. Jack was a veteran of the Vietnam era having served two years of active duty in Adak, Alaska and retired from the United States Navy in 1987 attaining the rank of Petty Officer First Class. Most importantly, Jack and Mary’s third child, Patrick Flynn Maguire, was born in 1987.
