Jack Richard “Pappy Jack” Wood, 74, of Westminster, died Tuesday April 19, 2011, at Carroll Hospice Dove House. Born September 21, 1936 in Raspburg, Maryland, he was the son of the late James E. and Mathilda Windisch Wood. He was the husband of Joanne Bullock Cooney Wood.
Before retiring he worked as a millwright. He attended Crosswinds Church in Westminster where he was a greeter and usher. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and was a member of the NRA, Westminster Elks Lodge No. 2277, Littlestown Eagles, Westminster Moose Lodge No. 1381 and Door to Virtue Masonic Lodge No. 46 AF & AM. He was a member of the Carpenters Union, Oasis Senior Group and was one of the founders of the Oriolette Majorettes.
Surviving in addition to his wife are a daughter and son-in-law Jennifer Wood Coppersmith and Ken of Westminster, a son James Wood of Westminster, step sons and wives Joseph B. and Jeanne Cooney of Union Bridge, Richard L. and Michele Cooney of Fairfield, P.A, Mark W. Cooney of Slanesville, W.Va, brother and sister-in-law James R. and Shirley Wood of Finksburg, sisters and brother-in-law, Corinthia Y. Elkins of Baltimore, M. Doris “Dottie” and Clifford Owens of Henrico, NC, grandchildren JR and Daniel Wood, Rick, John, Katie, Kyle, and Kailey Cooney. Also surviving are numerous nieces and nephews.
