Jack “Randy” R. Hale, 69, of West Lafayette, Indiana, passed away at home on October 16, 2021.

He was the first child born to the late Jack Dempsey and Gladys Earline (Letson) Hale in Moulton, Alabama, on November 11, 1951.  Randy graduated from East Tipp High School in 1970 and attended Purdue University, studying Aviation Maintenance.  He served as a First-Class Patrolman with the City of Lafayette for 33 years, from 1974 through 2007, and remained an active member of the Fraternal Order of Police Arman Lodge 49. He then served the City of Lafayette in the capacity of Animal Control Officer until retiring in 2013.

Randy loved his family dearly and is survived by his wife Margie (Bushman), whom he married on March 2, 1974. They have two children:  Brandon, West Lafayette, and Lindsey (Larry) Johnson, Indianapolis.  His pride and joy were his two granddaughters, Brinley Jean, and Quinn Jacklyn Johnson of Indianapolis.

Randy is also survived by his brother Jim (Elaine) Hale of Lafayette, sister Janet (Jeff) Batta, Lafayette and Judy (Ralph) Mazeski, New Jersey, brother and sister-in-law Rob and Shana Bushman, Monticello, Jeff and Valerie Tyson, Battle Ground, as well as many nieces and nephews.   Randy was preceded in death by his parents, Jack and Gladys Hale, and his in-laws Robert and Beverly Bushman.

Randy loved music of all kinds and had such fond memories of playing in his high school band, Tides of Love.  Randy was very proud of his home music room and his collection of guitars.  He was an animal lover of all kinds, but he was especially fond of his lab chow, Winston, his two pugs, Sherman & Miss Purdy, and cattle dog, Marshall Boy, who are sure to be anxiously awaiting his arrival in Heaven and looking forward to their all-day truck rides once again!  Randy is survived by his newest pug, Dixie, who brought him so much joy during his final months; she will miss her Papaw dearly.

Randy was happiest when entertaining family and friends with stories and music, playing with his beloved pets, and enjoying his granddaughters.  He was a big man with an even bigger heart, and he will be missed by those who knew him.

The family would like to thank Dr. Casey Pickerill and the Franciscan St. Elizabeth Hospice team of Darin, Julie, and Cindy for their devoted care to Randy.

Randy’s final act of kindness was becoming a tissue donor and giving the gift of life to many others.
