Jack Edward Mallard, 81, passed away at his home in Cumming, GA on November 5, 2015. Jack was born and raised on the Mallard farm near Jesup, GA, the second of eight children of the late Leonard and Pauline Mallard. His brother, Odis also predeceased him. After high school, Jack moved to Atlanta where he attended Southern Business University. In 1955 he joined and served four years in the US Air Force. After returning to Atlanta, Jack worked as an investigator for the Fulton County District Attorney while attending Woodrow Wilson College of Law. He received his LLB Degree in Law and passed the Georgia Bar in 1966. In 1967 he was appointed Assistant District Attorney and served with distinction as a prosecutor for four decades in Fulton, Cobb and Forsyth counties. Jack prosecuted hundreds of murder cases, including some of the most notable cases in Georgia: Wayne Williams (child murders); Fred Tokars; the first two DNA prosecutions in Georgia; and as Special Prosecutor, Jack assisted in the prosecution of Lynn Turner (murders by anti-freeze). He retired in 2007. Afterwards, he did what he always wanted to do: write a true account of the investigation and prosecution of Wayne Williams. The Atlanta Child Murders was published in 2009. A second book followed in 2012: Two Faces of a Serial Rapist. Jack served on the Board of Directors, National District Attorneys Association in the 1990s; Georgia Organized Crime Prevention Council (1970s); and received many awards and recognition, including the Governor’s Public Safety Award (2001) and Assistant District Attorney of the Year (1995).
