He grew up in Galena Park, Texas and moved with his wife and two children to Lake City, Florida in 1970, where he continued his career of 41 years at Occidental Chemical Corporation.

He was married to Nelda Cantey King for 64 years and a devoted father to Phyllis Allen (Ed) of Jacksonville, Florida and Ronald King (Tammy) of Lake City Florida. He was a loving grandfather to Matthew Allen (Aubrie) & Patrick Allen (Kim) all of Jacksonville, Florida and Nina Chauncey (Danny) of Valdosta, Georgia. He was also the great-grandfather of six children.
