Jack L. Ward, 67, Anderson, died May 23, 2008 at his home after losing his hard fought battle with cancer. The son of David and Ella Mae Jordan Ward , he was born on April 21, 1941 in Anderson. He resided in Rushville, IN. most of his adult life, but last year he moved back to Anderson to be near his children and family. Jack was a veteren of the United States Army.
He served in the 538th Engineer Battalion, serving his country during the Korean War. He was a member of the VFW #1541. He was a self-employed contractor and was a skilled journeyman and carpenter. Jack loved NASCAR racing, wrestling, and word puzzles and he never missed an episode of Gunsmoke.
He insisted on having a good sharp pencil and loved Little Debbie cakes. All those around him enjoyed his infectious sense of humor. Unknown to most people, having no pets of his own, many stray dogs found comfort with Jack, receiving flea baths and nutritious meals.
Jack is survived by his daughter; Kelly Jarvis and husband Tim. A son; Jack Steven Ward and fiancé Vicky Beason. His brothers; Ronnie, Dewey, and Ernie Ward. His sisters; Linda Sorg and Brenda Strouth. Also surviving is a grand daughter; Morgan Jarvis and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother; Dennis M. Ward and his sister Carolyn A. Ward.
