Jack L. Daddona, 88, of Galesburg, died at 10:43 a.m. Thursday, October 19, 2017 at Heartland Health Care in Galesburg.
Jack was born March 6, 1929 in Sayre, PA, to Jack M. and Beatrice E. (Carrington) Daddona. He graduated from Elmira High School and received his undergraduate degree from Mansfield University of Pennsylvania and a Master Degree from Penn State University.
Mr. Daddona was a veteran of the Korean War serving in the United States Air Force. He was stationed in Fairbanks, AK.
Jack moved to Galesburg in 1964 to work in the Teacher Education Department at Knox College. In 1971, he began a 26 year teaching and administrative career at Carl Sandburg College in the Social Science Division.
In 1977, he assumed chairmanship of the Social Science Division, a position he held until his retirement in 1997. At Carl Sandburg College, he received several teaching awards including, “Teacher of the Year,” “Burlington-Northern Excellence in Teaching Award,” and the “Carl Sandburg College Distinguished Service Award.” While at Carl Sandburg, Mr. Daddona continued to teach as an adjunct professor at Knox College and Monmouth College.
Jack married Shirley Campbell on June 25, 1955 in Athens, PA. Survivors include his beloved wife of 62 years, Shirley Daddona of Galesburg; a sister, Joan of Newark Valley, NY; three nephews and two nieces. He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Nancy.
