Jack Hyson USAC, 91, of Peru, passed away Thursday, December 9, 2021 at St. Margaret’s Health, Peru. Mr. Hyson was born June 4, 1930 in LaSalle to Walter and Betty (Windy) Hyson. He married Patricia Yepsen on September 15, 1956 at Grace United Methodist Church, LaSalle. Jack was a past president and active member of the Peru Eagle’s Lodge.
He worked for Schwerman Trucking Company and was the local shade tree mechanic for his family and friends.Jack loved all things in racing, especially the Indy 500. His father began taking him to Indy when he was a toddler, and Jack continued to go there, even this year. In his younger years, Jack even raced stock cars. Jack was a devoted father, grandfather, great grandfather, and a respected friend to so many.
Survivors include his three children, Don Hyson of Midland, TX, Dawn (William) Brown of Murfreesboro, TN, and Tracey (Gary) Kiefel of LaSalle; four grandchildren, Jason Glynn, Jeremy, Christopher, and Tiffani Kiefel; four great grandchildren, Aniston Glynn, Alexus, Michelle, and Zoey Kiefel, and two brothers, Richard and James Hyson. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Patricia on June 15, 2009, and a brother, William Hyson.
