ST IGNATIUS –  The Reverend Jack Elmo Wright, Jr., Ph.D., died April 19, 2023 in St. Ignatius, Montana. He was the son of Jack Elmo Wright, Sr. and Geraldine ‘Jerry’ Smiley Wright of Bellevue, Washington, both long deceased.

Jack is survived by his his wife, Ailene ‘Alex’ Wright of St. Ignatius, Montana; sister Jan and her husband, Bennet Anderson of Seattle, Washington; brother-in-law Don Oak and his wife Shirley Poulison of Sandpoint, Idaho; sister-in-law, Beverley Oak Bishop of Ennis, Montana; son Don Wright and wife Donna of Valley Mills, Texas; son Robb Wright and wife Carol of Colchester, Connecticut; and son Randall Wright of Portland, Oregon. Jack had three grandchildren and one great grandchild.

Jack was born in Walla Walla, Washington June 9, 1936. He graduated from Wesleyan College in Middletown, Connecticut. He graduated from Yale Divinity School and served United Methodist congregations in Milton, Washington; Sierra Madre, California; and Burbank, California. He graduated from Fuller University with a doctorate in clinical psychology. 

Jack was a published author of books and articles associated with psychological topics. He delivered many lectures at psychology conferences, and was a past president of the Idaho Psychological Association.

Jack married Ailene ‘Alex’ Oak in 1975 when they moved from southern California to Sandpoint, Idaho and then on to St. Ignatius, Montana. They enjoyed 48 years together.

Jack’s interests included reading books on science, economics, psychology and neuro-biology; listening to classical and jazz music; the lives of his sons and grandkids; and looking at the beautiful mountain scenery out his living room window.
