Jack E. “Butch” Grall, 71, of Elkhart, passed away Friday, Feb. 27, at Elkhart Hospice House.
Butch, as he was known to his family and friends, was born May 18, 1943, in South Bend, to Jack E. Sr. and Irene (DeCook) Grall.
Surviving are a son, Gary (Joanie) Grall of Riverview, Fla.; daughter Kimberly Gunter of Elkhart; five grandchildren, whom he adored, Allyson (Joe) Bryant, Lauren Gunter and Sydney Gunter, all of Elkhart, and Calvin and Camille Grall of Riverview; his mother, Irene Staley of Elkhart; sisters Ruthann Berry and Carolyn Cash, both of Elkhart,and Diana Grall of Mishawaka; and a brother, Michael Grall of Edwardsburg, Mich.
He was preceded in death by his father, Jack E. Grall Sr.
Butch retired from Vincent Bach with close to 30 years of service. He was a member of UAW Local 364 while working there. He graduated from South Bend Central High School and then enlisted in the U.S. Air Force, where he served as an air policeman from 1961 until his honorable discharge in 1963. He was the former owner of Aqua Pools in Elkhart, which he ran for many years.
Butch was an avid outdoorsman; he loved to hunt and fish. He also was a big IU basketball fan, especially during Bobby Knight’s reign.
