92, of Scottsdale, passed away at home in Auburn, WA on June 30, 2015 with his family by his side. Born on March 29, 1923 in Glendale, CA, he grew up in nearby Eagle Rock with parents Monnie and Henry and younger brother Jerry. Jack began working in his father’s meat market at age 12. He continued at Calvin Meat Markets as a meat cutter until he enlisted in the U.S. Army. He served in the China Burma India Theater during WWII, most notably as a Sergeant Weatherman on The Hump in China. Jack’s father passed away during the war, so family friend Rube Hayden hired Jack to work as a meat cutter at Shopping Bag Grocery after the war. Jack spent his entire life in various aspects of the meat industry, and even in retirement he was known for the eagle eye he gave to any cut of meat that came home from the market. Jack met his first wife, Barbara, at Lake Arrowhead, and they had three children – Bob, John, and Cathy. Barbara succumbed to illness, and in 1975 Jack married Lucille Stanfield, whom he met when they were both working in the grocery industry. Jack and Lucille soon ventured to La Pine, OR to pursue his dream of having their own cattle ranch. After selling the ranch, they moved to Cape Cod for several years before finding their bliss in Scottsdale in 1993.
