Jack C. Rice, 83, of Jacksonville, Il died Friday, April 23, 2010 at his home, surrounded by his loving family.
He was born March 24, 1927 in Oelwein, Iowa to Raymond B. and Helen Preston Rice. He married Bette Monahan in 1947 and she preceded him in death in 1969. In 1970 he married Catherine Wright and she preceded him in death in 1985. He married Sharon Roegge in 1986 and she survives.
In addition to his wife Sharon, he is survived by a son, Tim Rice of Chicago; four daughters, Kathy Rice, Susan Wagner (husband, Clark), and Mary Jo Russell (husband, Roger), all of Jacksonville and Jane Wright Parker (husband, Bob) of Lake Ozark, MO; a step-daughter, Jill Roegge (fiancé, Tom Lehr) of Chesterfield, MO; and a step-son, Jeff Roegge (wife, Lois) of St. Charles, MO; six grandchildren, Brett Parker (wife, Deborah) of Bixby, OK, Shannon Moore (husband, Brandon) of Richmond, MO, Kate Russell of St. Louis, MO, Sarah Wagner (fiancé, Jonathon Buffo) of Bloomington, and Lauren Russell and Ben Wagner, both of Jacksonville; two step-grandchildren, Eli and Faith Roegge; three great grandchildren, Kennedy Parker, Braden Parker, and Autumn Moore; and a brother, George “Dusty” Rice (wife, Jo Beth) of Cincinnati, OH. He was preceded in death by his parents.
Mr. Rice graduated from Oelwein High School in 1945 and attended Upper Iowa Teachers College and the University of Northern Iowa. He moved to Jacksonville in 1952 and began a long career in sales with Red Wing Shoe Company, traveling the State of Illinois for 28 years. In retirement he enjoyed fourteen years at Seven Springs Golf and Country Club in New Port Richey, FL, where he was active in the men’s golf association. He was a member of the Presbyterian Church of Seven Springs. He was a former member of the Jacksonville Country Club Board of Directors and was a member of Jacksonville Elks Lodge #682. He served with the US Navy veteran during WW II, stationed in Guam.
