Troy – We lost a very important man on August 11, 2022. It is with great sadness that we share the passing of Jack Costello born March 12, 1952 in Troy, NY. He was a graduate of LaSalle Institute in Troy and worked for the state of New York for 30+ years until his retirement.
Jack took pride in coaching his two sons and countless other kids at South Troy Little League and Twin Town Babe Ruth. He never missed a game. A trivia wizard and statistician, he was always the first-round draft pick for a game of Family Feud on holidays and could rattle off stats of any baseball player (especially his favorite team, the New York Mets). He knew it all without being a know-it-all.
He loved trips to Cape Cod with his family and to Atlantic City with his best friends Mel, Bob, and Paulie. He loved golf, bowling (he just shot his second 300 game of his life on December 27, 2021), a good casino, coffee milkshakes, crossword puzzles, the New York Mets, and most of all, he loved his family. He was the best Dad and husband anyone could ask for, and he recently had a new joy – he became a Papa with the birth of his first granddaughter, Harper Claire Donovan.
He leaves behind his wife of 38 years, Sharon, his three children John (Lauren), Kiley Donovan (Daniel), and Michael. He is survived by his two sisters Karen Koenig (Dan) and Cindy Herrington (Loren) as well as his extended family including his mother-in-law Claire, his sister-in-law Kim (Chris) and brother-in-law Jeff. He also had loving nieces and nephews, and many friends – too numerous to mention. He is predeceased by his mother (Alice) and father (Alvin).
He will be looking down on the Mets and his loving family forever.
