J. Richard “Bud” Gilger, 79, of Oil City, Pennsylvania and Naples, Florida, died 12:29 a.m. Monday morning, January 26, 2009, at Physicians Regional Hospital, Naples, Florida, following a brief battle with cancer. Born on December 12, 1929, Mr. Gilger was the son of John W. and Lela M. Orr Gilger. A 1947 graduate of Emlenton High School, Mr. Gilger attended Westminster College before enlisting in the U.S. Air force. He served during the Korean War as a radio operator in New Foundland. Following his military service, he returned to college and graduated from Penn State University in 1955. He was married in Emlenton on May 7, 1966 to the former Elizabeth Breene. She survives. He was a member of the Second Presbyterian Church in Oil City, Pennsylvania. Mr. Gilger was employed by Industrial Colloids in Emlenton, Pennsylvania, where he was in sales. He later became part owner and partner at Industrial Colloids and retired from there in 1988. In addition to his wife, Mr. Gilger is survived by a son, John Gilger of Hamilton, New York, two daughters, Elizabeth Gilger of Cincinnati, Ohio, and Jane Gilger Miller and her husband Chris of Overland Park, Kansas. Also surviving is his grandson, Zachary Miller of Overland Park, Kansas, and a sister and her husband, Marilyn Gilger Beals and her husband Duane of Kyle, Texas.
