J. Charlene Helvey passed away on February 14, 2019, at 12:08 a.m., surrounded by those she loved.

She was born on August 21,1946 to Ermon and Myrtle (Clark) Guffey in Elwood, Indiana. Her parents instilled in her and her brothers the love of family and a strong faith in God.

On March 17,1972 she married her one true love, Earnest Dale Helvey, and he preceded her in death on November 25, 2016.  To this union one son, Brandan Dale Helvey, was born. Brandan was the light in her eyes and the joy in her heart.  Brandan gave her a loving daughter-in-law when he married Telina, and they gave her Grandsons Gavin and Dylan, that she adored.  Family was the foundation of her life.

She graduated from Windfall High School with the class of 1964.  She loved books, reading six to eight books per week. Starting at age 13 she accumulated over 1,000 volumes of history, biographies, and mysteries. She never went anywhere without a book or her electronic reader. She loved Southern Gospel Music and received many blessings from listening to her numerous CD’s, feeling the power of God’s love through music.

She started working in 1973 for Trojan Seed Company, and Pfizer Genetics in Windfall.  In 1981 she moved to Kentland Indiana to work for the Edward J Funk Seed Company (Super Crost Seeds), working there until 1993. She began working for Pioneer Hi-Bred Tipton Plant in September 1994 and retired on September 19, 2008, working there fourteen years. Earlier in her life she had worked at Howard Community Hospital, Tipton Hospital, and Mallory Controls.

She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Brandan and Telina Helvey, Grandsons Gavin Drew Helvey and Dylan James Helvey all of Windfall, and step-son Keenan Helvey of Ocala, FL.  She is also survived by three brothers, Max DeRossett of Windfall, Granvil Guffey (Lauri) of Casa Grande, AZ, and Rev. James Guffey (Viola) of Sharpsville. Also surviving are several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

In addition to her husband Earnest, she was preceded in death by her parents, Ermon and Myrtle (Clark) Guffey, her sweet dear sister-in-law Aileen DeRossett, Grandparents William and America (Owens) Clark of Windfall, Isaac and Polly (Shelton) Guffey, and Step Grandmother Zora Guffey of Albany, KY., and several Aunts, Uncles, and Cousins.
