Iyone Louise Banke 81, of Flagstaff, passed away on August 15th after a short illness.

Iyone was born on January 7, 1928, in Centerville, South Dakota to Joseph and Hazel Edman. She was the oldest of four children. In 1945 she graduated from Beresford High School in Beresford, South Dakota, and went on to earn a degree in nursing from Augustana College in Sioux Falls. After moving to California, she met and married Elmer A. Banke in 1957. She continued working as a nurse until Elmer, a Naval officer, was transferred to the Philippines. While there she enjoyed traveling the Orient and seeing the sights of Hong Kong and Tokyo. Upon returning to the states they settled in Chula Vista, California where she was a homemaker and Avon representative, eventually rising to district manager. In 1976 the family moved to Rogers, Arkansas where she resumed her career as Director of Nursing at Heritage Park Nursing Home. After retiring from nursing, Elmer & Iyone resettled in Flagstaff in 2001.

She was a wonderful wife and mother and a joy to be around. She will be greatly missed by all who knew her.

She is survived by sons Bruce, of Flagstaff, and Ross (Geneva) of Bella Vista Arkansas, three grandchildren, and one great-grandchild.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 47 years, Elmer, her parents, two brothers, and one sister.
