Isabelle Fasso, of Hoffman Estates, previously longtime resident of Chicago, passed away December 18, 2020.
(The following is written by Cindy, Isabelle’s grand-daughter).
It is with heavy heart, that I let you know, one of the most important influential women in my life, my Gram, took her final “Sentimental Journey “and passed away this morning at the age of 94. While 2020 has proven to be a challenging year for all of us, it made me realize that other generations have gone through so much more.
Here are a few things I can share about Isabelle’s life:
She was only 23 when World War II started.
She was the youngest girl of 9 children and her dad passed away when she was just a little girl.
She lived through The Great Depression.
My grandfather, her husband, was declared disabled due to a heart condition and my grandmother was the sole provider to the household.
It was in that house that she taught me to cook, helped me through school, and taught me the values that I know today. She taught me to not to be “wasteful” and that nothing in life is free. She taught me that if I wanted something, it required me to work for it, but more importantly, she taught me to “stop and smell the roses” and to cherish every moment.
She’d tell me that things could always be worse than they are.
She’d tell me that it takes just as much energy to be nice as it does to be mean.
She’d tell me that a smile goes a long way.
All of this is why she was such an inspiration to me and after talking with some family members tonight, she was also an inspiration to others.
I heard some amazing stories that I had never heard before. It got me to thinking…
She was the wife of the late August (who passsed in 2009); mother of Barbara (late Robert) Tobiaski and the late Cynthia Ann and Gloria Ann passed in infancy); grandmother of Cindy (Chris) Ostrega; sister of the late Clara (Alphonse) Jacobus, Millie (Jack) Janowski, Bob (Lorraine) Dynek, Jean (Ed) Brotski, Helen (Ray) Serotzke, Edward (Marge) Dynek, Mike (Ceil) Dynek and Blake (Ann) Dynek. God-mother of MaryAnn, Donna, Joanne and Vicki.
