Isabel Ramirez Chavez, 91, of Silver City, NM peacefully passed away on July 19, 2022, with her family by her side.
Isabel was born on March 12, 1931, to Antonio and Maria Ramirez in Fierro, NM. She had many beautiful memories of growing up in Fierro, where she was fondly known as “Chavela”.
On August 11, 1946, she married the love of her life, Joe M. Chavez in Silver City. They eventually relocated to California where they raised their eight children. They remained in California for many years, but their hearts remained in Silver City, so after Joe’s retirement they returned in 1993.
Isabel was preceded in death by her parents, Antonio and Maria Ramirez; her husband, Joe; her sons Nick and Joe Chavez; her grandson, Daniel Cattani; and her brothers and sisters.
Isabel is survived by her six children: Eva Reyes, and Ernesto of Silver City, NM; Olga Fernandez, and Rick of Las Cruces, NM; Isabel Chavez of Norwalk, CA; Dolores Chavez of Arcadia, CA; John Chavez, and Marisa of Long Beach, CA; and Ana McPherson, and Rene of Las Cruces, NM. She is also survived by her daughters-in-law: Rosemary Chavez and Yvonne Chavez of Silver City, NM; 28 grandchildren; 43 great-grandchildren, 3 great-great-grandchildren, and 2 Godchildren.
Isabel (Granny) was a great inspiration to her children, grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, and her many friends. Her family was her sole focus, and her love was unconditional. She was passionate about her Catholic faith and loved the Lord. Anyone that knew Isabel, was touched by her kindness, strength, loving, gentle, and peaceful soul. If you ever visited her, you were sure to receive a delicious homecooked meal, made with love. We will all miss her more than words can say.
