Isabel Engel McGuffin of Boerne went peacefully to be with the lord on November 23, 2016 at the age of 91. Isabel was a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother who lived her life with Amazing Grace.

Isabel was born in Bergheim on October 29, 1925, to Alfred Engel & Louise Henkel Engel. Isabel attended St. Joseph’s Catholic School in Honey Creek and Boerne High School. She worked in her family’s Bergheim General Store and as a civil servant in San Antonio during World War II.

Isabel and Allen F. McGuffin were married at St. Joseph’s on June 25th, 1947, and lived in Bergheim for the next ten years where they were blessed with two sons, Ronald (“Ronnie”) and David. They purchased a beer distributorship in 1957 and moved to Hondo, where Isabel lived for the next 52 years. Isabel was active in the Hondo community, including holding various positions in the St. John’s Alter Society, the Garden Club in Hermann Sons Victory Lodge. Isabelle’s oldest son, Ronnie was a special needs child. Isabel devoted her life to creating happiness for her son, breaking barriers along the way. Isabel and Allen, along with other parents of special needs children formed the Medina County Association for Exceptional Citizens, where Isabel served as treasurer for more than 30 years.   Isabel’s priorities were faith and family. She was a wonderful homemaker and an excellent cook.

Isabel is preceded in death by her parents, Alfred and Louise; her husband, Allen; her son, Ronnie; and her sister Bernadine Cobb. Surviving family include Isabel’s son David and his wife Phyllis of Fair Oaks Ranch; grandchildren Chad (and Liliana) McGuffin of Bergheim, Amy (and Jess) Hackebeil of Bergheim, and Katie McGuffin of Glen Rose; sister, Genevieve Jones of Boerne; sisters-in-law Joyce McGuffin of Boerne and Jan McGuffin of Warner Robins, Georgia; six great-grandchildren and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.
