Irwin Stuart “Skip” Johnson of Colorado Springs, Colorado passed on April 8th, 2022 at the age of 87. He was preceded in death by his parents Irwin and Myrtle Johnson and his brother James Johnson. He is survived by his loving family – Alice Johnson, daughter Connie Sayler (Mark), son Steve Johnson (Bridget), daughter Karen Kremers (Steve), granddaughters Stevi Swift (Ryan), Chelsey Castleberry (Brandon), Erin Kremers, grandson Rick Sayler, step-grandsons Jeremy Boldt (Alisen), Clint Boldt (Melanie), great grandchild Alice Castleberry, step-great grandchildren Eila, Willow, Sky and River Boldt.
Skip was born in St. Paul, Minnesota. He lived in Little Rock, Arkansas and Parkersburg, West Virginia before settling down in Detroit Lakes where he attended Detroit Lakes High School. He graduated from the University of North Dakota with a degree in Geology. He married the love of his life Alice Ann Amundson on October 18, 1957. Subsequently, they raised three children, four grandchildren and one great grandchild over their sixty-three years of marriage.
Skip spent his career working as a geologist in oil, gas and uranium exploration. His career took him to Casper, Wyoming and Houston, Texas. Retired life took Skip and Alice to Spicewood Texas, Cuchara, Colorado and Colorado Springs, Colorado. He loved aviation, the mountains, and the outdoors. In Spicewood, he was able to indulge his love of aviation. Between flying, building an airplane and simply hanging out in his hangar, Spicewood airport was a happy place for him.
