Irvin Leroy Niehs, age 91, of Stromsburg, Nebraska, formerly of Hettinger, North Dakota, passed away April 21, 2020 at Lancaster Rehabilitation Center in Lincoln, Nebraska.

Irvin was born April 9, 1929 to August and Marie (Weinberger) Niehs on the farm at Haynes, North Dakota. He was the last living sibling of 10 children. He attended Chandler School and started at Hettinger High School and when his brother died he had to quit school and take over the farm. In his 20’s Irvin enjoyed playing baseball for the Haynes Trojans as a short stop, 3rd baseman and right fielder.
On June 19, 1965 he was united in marriage to Donna Jean Birkley at Portland, Oregon. To this union two children were born. He worked as a farmer and rancher his entire life.  In December of 2019, Irvin and Donna moved to Stromsburg for health reasons.
Irvin came to know the Lord from hearing old fashioned revival hour with his dad and later listening to Christian radio. They attended the Assembly of God church and the First Baptist Church in Hettinger. He served as a Deacon, Trustee, lead singing, Gideon, and provided nursing home ministry for 19 years. He wasn’t afraid to share his faith with anyone.
Survivors include his wife of 54 years, Donna of Hettinger, ND; children Don (Angie) Niehs of Lenexa, KS and Diane (Bryan) Myers of Stromsburg; grandchildren Jace and Kailee Niehs and Brandon, Dylan, Courtney, Brittney and Chelsey Myers; other relatives and a host of friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers Laurence and Harold Niehs; seven sisters: Teresa Niehs, Esther Niehs, Leona Lempke, Hazel Lewis, Evelyn Hanson, Elsie Niehs and Marion Edde.
