Iris Horaney, 78, of 1416 E. Knox St., Galesburg, died Saturday, March 1, 2008 at OSF St. Mary Medical Center, Galesburg.

Iris was born on August 2, 1929 in Cairo, Egypt, the daughter of Oscar and Mary Pussilonicova Cacopardo. She married James L. Horaney on February 14, 1961 in Galesburg. Surviving Iris are her husband, Jim of Galesburg; 2 sons, Cleo Ceasar Gibb of Galesburg and Paul (Donna) Gibb of Metamora; a daughter, Shirley (Pat) Nemeth of Ladd; a sister, Polly Cohen of London, England; 4 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren. Preceding her in death were 2 sisters.

Iris graduated from St. Clare School and College. After college she worked as a translator for the Egyptian Embassy. Iris came to the United States in 1948. She then worked on the assembly line at Admiral for 15 years. She last worked in the alumni office at Knox College for 15 years. She was a member of Corpus Christi Catholic Church and its altar and rosary society.
