          Ruthanna Irene Unger, 100, of Taneytown, passed away peacefully on Thursday, August 2, 2018 at her Lorien Assisted Living residence.  Born September 17, 1917 in Westminster, she was the daughter of the late George and Ethel (Ridinger) Gist.  She was the wife of the late Norman Samuel Unger, who died June 13, 1981.

          Irene was a seamstress at Bornstein’s Clothing Company from the time she was 16 until the company closed when she was 70.  She was a long-time member of Grace United Church of Christ in Taneytown, and at the time of her passing was the oldest member of the congregation.  She was a volunteer and life-member of the Taneytown Volunteer Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary and the Hesson Snider American Legion Post 120 Ladies Auxiliary in Taneytown.

          Surviving are many nieces, nephews and extended family.  She was predeceased by all 4 of her siblings, George and Norman Gist, Edith Farver and Elizabeth Settle.
