  • Date Of Death: January 30, 2014

Irene Gonzalez entered into eternal peace on Thursday, January 30, 2014.

Irene was born on October 20, 1920 in Mexico.
She was the oldest of 6 children born to Guillermo Trevino and Guadalupe Castaneda.
As a young woman Irene would help her father with the family owned grocery store in Monterrey, Mexico.

Irene married the love of her life, Jose Gonzalez, on October 12, 1948.
They had 3 daughters, Virginia, Rosie, and Blanca.
Jose was an accountant and Irene was a homemaker.
The love Jose had for Irene was immeasurable.
Together with their 3 daughters, they came to the United States in August, 1965.
Jose entered into eternal peace on December 31, 1977.

One of Irene’s biggest accomplishments was on October 4, 1988, when she became a naturalized U.S. citizen. She was always very proud of that and she loved preparing for her citizennship exam and learning all about United States history.

There are many things for which Irene will be remembered, but what will never be forgotten is the love, tenderness, and kindness she always projected to her daughters, grandchildren, great grand children, and sons-in-law.
Irene was a kind and gentle soul. She had a loving and generous heart and was always giving to others. She loved to sing, dance, and just talk to people.
What made her very special was the love she gave to everyone, even if you were a stranger.
People would just naturally take to her personality.

Another thing about her was her love of the color RED.
Everything she owned was red. Red clothes, red jewelery, red coat, red hat. . . If it was red, she liked it. (The only exception was strawberries. She simply refused to eat strawberries!)

She also loved to make homemade rice pudding and homemade flour tortillas for the grand kids.

Another thing she liked to do when she lived for 9 years with Blanca and Gary was to watch football, basketball and baseball on TV with them. Since Gary doesn’t speak Spanish much, the games were always in English and even though Irene did not speak English, she still loved to watch the games and would coment on them. “So many people!” “Who are the teams?” “Where are they playing?”

Irene was pre-deceased by her beloved husband of 29 years, her siblings Jesus, Juanita, Blanca, Guillermo, and her parents, Guadalupe and Guillermo.
