Irene T. Banules, 85 of Hope died Sunday, April 30, 2017 at MediLodge of Midland.

The daughter of the late Napoleon and Leigh (Cardinal) Fish was born October 21, 1931 in Detroit where she was raised and educated, graduating from St. Gregory Catholic School. On July 8, 1950 she married Anthony C. (“AC”) Banules at St. Gregory’s. In 1987 they moved to Wixom Lake, tore down their summer cottage, built a home and purchased Lakeside Market in Sanford.

Irene enjoyed working at the store and made many wonderful friends. She loved the Lions, Tigers and Red Wings. But especially enjoyed cheering her sons’ sports games. She knew all the rules and was almost banned from many a game of football, basketball or hockey for heckling the “incompetent, blind referees”. Irene was an accomplished seamstress and made the “new habits” for the Sisters of St. Joseph at St. Dennis Catholic School in Royal Oak. She was known for her cooking and baking skills, especially apple and chocolate pies which she made regularly for Sunday family dinners. Card playing was a favorite, serious past time for Irene.

She was a member of St. Agnes Catholic Church in Sanford and the Sanford Jacks and Jills where she volunteered with the Casino Bus trips and enjoyed playing at the various casinos.

Irene is survived by her loving husband of nearly 67 years, Tony; daughters Linda Mousseau of Yorba Linda, CA and Kathy (Mike) Ordiway of Midland; daughter in law, Kelly Banules of Redford, Michigan; proud grandmother of 10 grandchildren, Ken Mousseau, Cherice Mousseau, Suzette Mousseau, Danielle (Jacob) Ridley, Katrina (Paul) McLaughlin, Ryan (Jen) Wall, Tony (Rachel) Wall, Ali (Larry) Sledz, Anthony Banules and Emily Banules; 18 great grandchildren; sister in law Marilyn Fish; many step grand and great grandchildren. She was predeceased by her sons Anthony W. and Charles L.; brother Arthur Fish; sisters, Bernice Glenn, Loretta Cox, Phyllis Cox, Ruth Ann Wertman, Barbara Shakes and infant sister Shirley Ann Fish.
