Irene Rosalie Funk, 81, of Midland, died on Monday, April 16 2012 at Brittany Manor of Midland after a very long battle with Alzheimer’s.
Irene was born to the late Paul John and Mary Frances (Smielewski) Kaczynski on September 4 1930, in Fisherville, MI. Raised on a small farm near her church Irene was strong in her Catholic faith. On October 9, 1948 she married Cecil Earl Funk and began a life together that would span 61 years, until his death in 2009. In the early years of her marriage she worked as a cashier for A&P grocery. As the children came she spent her time at home and volunteering at St Brigid School Library. The family had six children, one died at birth, all raised and schooled in the Catholic faith. Irene loved to garden, listen to the Detroit Tigers, and travel to see family as some had moved to various parts of the country.
Surviving are her children, John (Diane) Funk, of Midland, James (Joan) Funk of Canal Fulton, OH, Mary (Jeff) Novak of Rainier, OR, Susan (Gary) Kuckenbecker of Newburg, OH, Paula (Scott) Dachsteiner of Midland; Grandchildren, Brian Funk, Thomas Funk, Eric Funk, Heather Funk, Brittany Funk, Kevin Novak, Thomas Novak, Nikki Novak, Kimberly Kuckenbecker, Kristen Kuckenbecker, Crystal Dachsteiner, Scott Dachsteiner, Sara Dachsteiner and Robert Dachsteiner; seven great grandchildren; sister-in-law, Mrs. Floyd (Taffy) Kaczynski. Irene was pre-deceased by husband Cecil, unborn son Paul, brothers, Paul Kaczynski, Floyd Kaczynski and sister, Dorothy Dziurka.
