Irene Mitchell Crowther, 89
West Sand Lake Irene Mitchell Crowther, 89, of Capital Boulevard, died Wednesday at her residence after a brief illness.
Born in Glenham, NY she was daughter of the late Frank and Irene Hallihan Mitchell and wife for 61 years of the late of Donald Brett Crowther. She was raised in Beacon, NY, resided in the Troy area for several years and for the past 60 years in West Sand Lake and was educated at Beacon, NY schools.
Mrs. Crowther was a secretary for the Beacon New York News, a marketing firm in New York City, and for Averill Park High School, as well as a homemaker for many years. She was a Den Mother in West Sand Lake for several years. She was very proud that three of her Cub Scouts, her son and two other scouts, went on to be Eagle Scouts in the Boy Scouts. Mrs. Crowther loved gardening, sewing and summering with her family in Vermont.
Survivors include her daughter-in-law, Marilyn J. Crowther of East Greenbush ; two grandsons, John M. Crowther (Christina) of Castleton and Jeffrey D. Crowther (Ilene) of Tampa, FL; a granddaughter, Jennifer M. Marra (John) of North Greenbush; six great grandchildren, Katie, Colleen, Sean, Jake and Abbey Crowther and Maeve Marra and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her son in 1996, John M. Crowther and three brothers, Frank, William and Charles Mitchell and three sisters, Helen Plimpton, Anna Corcoran and Jeanne Bolander.
